The Word and the Light: Silence
The earth is asleep.
Frostbite nips at frigid souls;
Deep darkness has descended.
Stifling silence screams at the stars;
The Word has not yet spoken.
The Word and the Light: Spark
A tiny candle sparks to life;
A prick of light defies the gloom.
A small voice cries in the wild:
The darkness has not conquered,
The light is coming soon.
The Word and the Light: Sin
The people love the darkness;
They seek rest inside the void.
The silence is their symphony.
They flee the light that shatters night,
Seeking solace in their shackles.
The Word and the Light: Soon
The image of God is shrouded,
Lost in the veil of Stygian dusk.
The voice of God falls only on deaf ears.
But the horizon is tinged with a pale glow;
The dawn is nearly come.
The Word and the Light: Son
The cry of a child pierces the night,
A small flame newly brought to life.
A chorus of angels shatters the silence.
The light has come, the dark is broken;
The silence is stifled, the Word now speaks.
Thank you so much to everyone who made this poem part of their Advent celebration this year. I hope these words played a small role in directing your attention toward the reason for the season this Christmas.
